This year (2011) we'll be extending our range of arches as they have been so popular - look for our new range from October and we'll have spare bulbs from that time as well
It's always a warming feeling to see Christmas lights wherever you go in December, and what better than to light up your home with beautiful traditional Christmas lights like those used in Scandanavia. The use of an arch of candles during advent has been a tradition over there for many years. Candle lights have been around since the slow burning properties of wax were discovered centuries ago, and the Scandanavians realised that the use of candle lights in an arch shape could be both decorative and effective. Our candle arches are all electrically lit and as such entirely safe, but the original Christmas candle arch would have held real wax candles. These would have been lit on December 13th and kept alight for the whole of the Christmas period. The candle arch is usually placed in a window so that it can be enjoyed both by those in the house and those outside.
In Sweden today, many houses will have a candle arch in each window of the house. The effect to the onlooker is stunning, with lights everywhere. The very dark days of December in Scandanavia are a part of the reason for the use of candle arches and the Christmas festivities begin with the festival of lights in Sweden on December 13th, which is St Lucia's Day. Freshly baked Lucia buns, flavoured with Saffron are traditionally served on this day.
So Raise Your Glasses has brought you a range of Christmas or Advent arches in several designs, all made by the Swedish company Kondt Smide. They are superb quality and treated carefully will provide you with a lovely Christmas decoration for years to come. We have both modern and traditional designs of candle arches. Most candle arches have 7 lights although there are a number of candle arches that bear five lights as well. The arches are either a gentle curve or the more traditional and simple pyramid shape, or upturned V. All our candle arches are supplied with spare light bulbs and we stock spares for all the arches that we keep in stock. Whether you prefer dark wood or light wood, carved or plain, traditional or modern, we are sure that you'll find a Christmas candle arch that's right for you and your home at So Raise Your Glasses.
These reasonably priced Christmas arches can be found amongst our Christmas decorations.
