There are an infinite number of ways to decorate a Christmas tree and the range and variation of Christmas tree decorations that is now available is mind blowing.

First there's the size and type of Christmas tree to decide upon and the choice will depend upon your taste and your budget and the space you have available for it in your home. The way in which you then decide to decorate your Christmas tree will depend upon the same factors and also on the size of the tree and the environment in which you are going to put it.

The most fundamental choice for trees is whether you have a real Christmas tree or an artificial Christmas tree, and how large or small you want your tree to be. There is now a considerable variation in the type of real Christmas trees that are available. These range from the Norway Spruce which is the traditional Christmas tree with the fine dark green needles that can start to shed once the tree gets dry through to the Nordman Fir which has larger flatter needles that are much less easily shed, and so looks good for significantly longer, and usually right through the Christmas and New Year period. In addition you can also get a Fraser Fir that is known for its beautiful fragrance, and the Noble Fir that has soft bluish green needles.

The range and choice of artificial trees is much wider and includes all sorts of colours and styles of tree which are available to suit a whole range of tastes. Perhaps the most interesting of these has made use of fibreoptic technology to bring you a Fibreoptic Christmas tree that can look very real when not lit, but which can provide a constantly changing set of colours to enthrall you when it is switched on. The big advantage of the man made trees, of course, is the fact that they can be used year after year, and so, whilst relatively more expensive than real trees can work out more economic in the long term.

Some of the loveliest trees are adorned simply with white lights, and this would have been the traditional way to decorate a Christmas tree when they were first introduced, although not with the safety of electric lights at that time!
