Wedding horseshoes are a good luck token and a very traditional gift to give to the Bride and Groom on their wedding day. Beautifully decorated Wedding Horseshoes will be kept as a token of luck and happiness for years to come
The origins of the horseshoe as a good luck charm, and therefore the giving of a wedding horseshoe as a symbol of good luck for the future of the marriage goes back centuries into mythology. There is not one story that provides the reason for horseshoes proferring good luck either, but three possibilities. One is that horseshoes are made of iron which is seen as a good luck metal, and that the horseshoe is shaped like a crescent moon, and this is itself a sign of prosperity. Some say that witches were afraid of horses because they represent truth, loyalty and goodness, and so they rode broomsticks instead of horses. As a result horseshoes are seen as a charm that will ward away witches and evil spirits. The third is the story of St Dunstan who was a blacksmith. It is said that the devil arrived at his door requesting that he be shoed. St Dunstan recognised the devil for who he was and tied him up and then inflicted great pain on him in the process of shoeing him. The devil pleaded for mercy and St Dunstan made him promise that he would never enter any house wherein there was a horseshoe.
Whatever the reason, we have a beautiful range of decorated wedding horseshoes for you to give to the happy couple as a keepsake, along with softly decorated hearts which speak for themselves and wooden spoons which is a tradition which originated in Wales. The word spooning meant "sentimental lover" and it was the man that would carve a wooden love spoon for the object of his desire or his future bride.
Wooden spoons as a gift for a wedding and as a token of love originate from Wales. The love spoon is a traditional gift in Wales and was made by the man as a love token and gift for his lady. The tradition was for the sppons, always made of wood, to be carefully and intricately carved in order to show the care and concern that the gentleman had for the object of his affection. If the lady kept the spoon then this was a sign that all was well and his love was returned. If she sent the spoon back, then it showed she was not interested in the man. Today, the symbol of love remains and is used widely at weddings - giving the couple a decorated wooden spoon is intended as a symbol of their love
All of our wooden spoons, hearts and wedding horseshoes are decorated with thought and care in order to provide the perfect gift for a bride and groom. We are sure you will be able to find a gift that suits you.
