Floods January 2014

Floods January 2014

As you are all aware, we have suffered unprecedented flooding on the Somerset Levels. Conditions around us are poor and the nearby village of Muchelney is still cut off - only this morning our own cats had to be evacuated by boat after an extended holiday in the village.
So Raise Your Glasses continues to pick, pack and despatch your orders as normal as, thankfully, we still have the major road (a lane!) into the village open.
Many people all over the country are suffering terrible flooding and we know of several people locally who are having to dry out their homes and businesses once again, just a few months after recovering from the previous floods. Our thoughts are with these people and we very much hope that the rain finally stops and normality can be restored. The people of Muchelney may have a few more weeks of getting to school, work and local services via a limited boat service and day to day life for them will take a significant time to return to normal.

The photograph shows the Langport / Muchelney area this morning while waiting for the rescue boat to arrive. The water further down the lane is very deep with at least two submerged cars.
